Lauren
Yoga and Meditation Teacher
Hi, I’m Lauren and I’ve been practising yoga since 2011 and teaching since 2016. Prior to teaching I worked as a registered nurse and enjoyed attending various yoga classes as a way of unwinding after work. Shortly before discovering yoga, I had also developed an interest in mindfulness meditation and found this to be another useful tool in helping me cope with the everyday work stresses that came with nursing.
My JOURNEY
As time went on, I started practising yoga and meditation more frequently and I soon discovered that the two disciplines are very much intertwined. I also came to realise that yoga is not just a form of exercise or about what you can or can’t do physically. This was a bit of a turning point for me and over the following years I experimented with various different styles of yoga, and practised under many different teachers. I started to understand (and experience for myself) the connection between mind and body, and was becoming increasingly aware of the proven benefits of yoga on overall wellbeing. In 2016 I undertook my yoga teacher training and began teaching in Oxford. My career as a nurse had been fuelled by a desire to help people, and now teaching provides me with another opportunity to do this, but in a completely different way. Through my teaching I aim to share the many benefits I have experienced through practising yoga, helping others to feel more at ease within themselves, both mentally and emotionally, as well as physically.
Today, my teaching draws from the different styles of yoga I have practised over the years. Combining teachings from the Hatha, Vinyasa Flow and Ashtanga traditions, my classes focus strongly on breath awareness in synchronisation to movement. A typical class includes flowing mindfully from one pose to the next, and will challenge your strength, balance and coordination. By focusing on the breath, and moving in this way, we encourage the mind to quieten and allow ourselves to connect with our present moment experience.
